A pilot has been seriously injured in a light plane crash in a paddock south of Brisbane.

The aircraft came down in the rural suburb of Greenbank in Logan about 2.30pm on Friday, police say.

It caught fire after coming to a halt at the base of a large tree, with all but the tail section of the plane consumed by flames.

“It appears the aircraft landed quite hard in the paddock,” ambulance paramedic Mark Nugent said.

Two local residents were the first on scene, where they found the pilot lying beside the smouldering wreckage.

They dragged him to safety as the aircraft caught alight.

“Those bystanders were very courageous,” Mr Nugent said.

The 24-year-old suffered serious head, chest and abdominal injuries.

He was airlifted to Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition.

It is not known what caused the accident.
