New COVID case in NT quarantine camp

A 32-year-old woman has tested positive for COVID-19 in a Darwin quarantine camp after returning to Australia from London.

November 12, 2020

A woman who flew from London to the Northern Territory has tested positive for COVID-19 while quarantining near Darwin.

The 32-year-old returned to Australia on a Commonwealth repatriation flight on Sunday, NT Health says.

She tested negative on arrival but returned a positive result while isolating at Howard Springs facility after being in close contact with a previously reported case.

The woman has mild symptoms and remains under the care of medical staff at the disused mining camp, a spokesman said on Thursday.

NT Health has previously said returned overseas travellers were a high-risk group, and five to 10 per cent were likely to test positive for the virus.

It brings the total number of coronavirus cases diagnosed in the NT to 42.

All infections are related to travellers coming into the territory and not community transmission.
