A Queensland man shot by police faces a string a charges after he allegedly fired at officers during a nine-hour siege at a rural property.

The 55-year-old was shot in the leg on Sunday after he barricaded himself inside a shed at a Walloon property and allegedly fired shots at police.

He was taken to Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and underwent surgery.

He was charged on Tuesday with three counts of serious assault of a police officer, two counts of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and dangerous conduct with a weapon.

Earlier, police said the man held officers at bay with intermittent shots after officers went to the property to check on his welfare.

Specialist police attempted to negotiate with the man before he was shot.

He is scheduled to appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court later this month.
