The father of Brisbane Broncos star David Fifita has been jailed for a string of offences, including common assault, drug possession and forceful entry.

The father of NRL star David Fifita has been sentenced to almost three months in jail for a string of offences, mostly related to a neighbourhood dispute.

Siaosi Teisina Fifita, 41, pleaded guilty in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday to 11 charges, including drug possession, forceful entry and common assault between July 2018 and May 2019.

He told the court his actions had cost him the chance to see his 19-year-old son make his NRL debut with the Brisbane Broncos and representative games for Queensland and Australia.

The bulk of the charges stem from a violent clash with a man and a woman on January 7 at a Brisbane home.

The court heard Fifita went to the house with three men to speak to a man following a series of attacks on his brother’s home and car.

Things turned ugly when Fifita picked up a steel bar and physically threatened the woman after she yelled at him to leave.

The residents defended themselves by spraying Fifita in the face with degreaser and hitting him with a hammer, police prosecutor Ben Michell said.

“The defendant (then) said to the male victim ‘I’ll shoot you’ … it’s ugly offending,” he said.

Fifita was also charged with four counts of receiving tainted items related to number plates and jewellery, and drug possession of 2.3 grams of methamphetamine.

“It shows he’s clearly drug-affected and it may have impacted his behaviour,” Mr Michell said.

Fifita, who defended himself in court, said he approached the property to resolve the conflict that led to the attacks on his brother’s home.

“I know my history, but I have been staying out of trouble for ages,” he said.

“For my son’s sake I’ve been doing the right thing.

“He’s got a good career and I don’t want to stuff it up for him.

“I missed out on his debut and that with Australia and Queensland.”

Fifita was sentenced to 83 days in prison, the same amount of time he has already spent in custody following the offences.
