Incentives, taxes rolled out in national Airbnb changes
Incentives and taxes are being deployed amid the shifting ground for short-term accommodation providers across Australia.

AIRBNB: THE RULES ACROSS AUSTRALIA
* Victoria introduced a statewide 7.5 per cent consumer levy on short-term accommodation bookings with platforms such as Airbnb and Stayz in September.
* NSW requires most short-term accommodation hosts to register their properties, with a 180-day annual cap for unhosted short-term properties in the Greater Sydney region and some regional areas.
* The popular NSW coastal holiday town of Byron Bay will introduce a 60-day annual cap on short-term rentals in September next year.
* WA introducing regulations for short-term accommodation providers to register properties, with local government approval required for most unhosted properties that operate for more than 90 nights in 12 months.
* Queensland completed a short-term accommodation review in August and will consider creating a register of all AirBnB, Stayz and short-term rentals.
* Some Tasmanian short-term accommodation providers are required to apply for a local council permit to operate and booking platforms must collect hosts’ planning permission information.
