A man has been charged with murder over an alleged attack at a disability care group home in Western Australia.

The 33-year-old allegedly assaulted a 40-year-old man on Friday at the NDIS group home in Australind, about 160km south of Perth, police said.

The younger man was initially charged with unlawfully doing grievous bodily harm to another.

But that was upgraded to murder on Wednesday after his alleged victim died in hospital.

The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission is conducting an investigation into the man’s death.

“Our sympathies are with the family and friends of an NDIS participant who was seriously injured and has subsequently died under tragic circumstances,” a spokesman said.

The commission said the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death was “to ensure that the provider has fulfilled all of its obligations under the NDIS Code of Conduct and the NDIS Practice Standards”.

The man was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in Bunbury Magistrates Court on November 3.
