A heavy police presence has descended on Perth’s northern suburbs after reports of gun shots sent a primary school into lockdown.

September 13, 2023

Police are continuing to investigate multiple reports of gunfire in Perth’s northern suburbs which sent a primary school into lockdown.

Members of the public are being warned to remain indoors after shots were heard in the Clarkson area, 35km north of Perth.

Tactical Response Group officers are believed to be responding to the incident.

The first report of gunshots was made about midday on Wednesday, with more shots heard about 2.40pm local time.

Clarkson Primary School was locked down while officers searched the grounds but they were unable to find where the sounds came from.

The school lockdown was lifted about 1:15pm but reinstated after the second lot of shots was reported.

It has since been lifted again and parents are understood to be arriving at the school to collect their children.

“Police have allocated significant resources to the area to investigate,” a WA Police spokeswoman said.

“While there is no need to be alarmed, police advise the public remain indoors.”

The WA Education Department has been contacted for comment.
