A baby abducted when a man stole a car in Adelaide has been found safe and well.

The four-month-old boy was located in his mother’s Honda Jazz about 10am on Monday, South Australian police say.

He was abducted about 7.45am after the man approached the 29-year-old woman and drove off in her car from an inner-city suburb.

“We’re just so relieved to have baby back safe with mum,” Superintendent Matt Nairn told reporters.

“It would probably create the greatest amount of stress for any parent to see this happen and it is a reminder to any parent – be careful.

“We’re not apportioning any blame to mum. Mum has done her absolute best. In this case, everything has been done by the offender or suspect.”

Officers found the child in his baby capsule in the nearby suburb of Enfield about 10 minutes north of the Adelaide CBD.

The infant was reunited with his mother and taken to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital for a health check.

The woman was not injured.

Officers continue to search for the suspect, with Supt Nairn saying he could be charged with kidnapping.
