Oil spill at remote Uluru resort town
A truck carrying thousands of litres of oil has spilled it’s load at a resort town just outside World Heritage-listed Uluru in the Northern Territory.

A truck carrying thousands of litres of oil has spilled its load at a remote resort town near World Heritage-listed Uluru in the Northern Territory.
Firefighters were called to the hazmat incident in Yulara about 8am on Wednesday.
A flatbed truck carrying four 1000 litre pods of oil had spilled the contents of one of the pods after it punctured, a police spokeswoman said.
Emergency service contained the spill using earth embankments pushed around the oil with the help of local machinery operators.
“Crews worked together with Voyages Ayers Rock Resort staff and police to contain and manage the oil spill, preventing further environmental impact,” Yulara fire station commander Paul Miles said.
Uluru and Yulara are 450 kilometres southwest of Alice Springs.
Yulara is located on the edge of the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, near to the main entry station.
Most of the town is made up of Ayers Rock Resort, an Indigenous-owned business that provides accommodation, restaurants and other essential services to people visiting the park.
The NT Environment Protection Authority and NT WorkSafe have been notified.
