Ten Network has made its first leadership change following its takeover by US media giant CBS.

The broadcaster has appointed director of corporate and regulatory affairs Annabelle Herd to the newly created role of chief operating officer.

Ten said the new role covers a range of business functions and is effective immediately.

Chief executive Paul Anderson said Ms Herd had been responsible for leading Ten’s corporate position in a complex media landscape.

““She is a strong and trusted leader and has the qualities for this position, both now and into the future,” he said in a statement.

Ms Herd joined Ten in 2004 after fours as senior advisor to federal communications minister Richard Alston, and has also previously worked in government relations for Virgin Mobile Australia.

Ten’s takeover by CBS was finalised in November, five months after the network was placed in voluntary administration when key shareholders Lachlan Murdoch and Bruce Gordon refused to back a new funding deal.
