Qld arrest warrant for jailed NT murderer

Queensland Police have issued an arrest warrant for jailed Northern Territory murderer Andrew Albury for the 1983 murder of Patricia Carlton in Mount Isa.

July 6, 2021

Queensland police believe a jailed Northern Territory murderer killed another woman, in Mount Isa in the 1980s.

Mount Isa police have issued an arrest warrant for Andrew Albury for the murder of Patricia Carlton, 24.

She died on October 1, 1983, after police found her unconscious in a Mount Isa hotel car park.

Ms Carlton had been beaten with a metal pole and died later that day in hospital.

“We have investigated the homicide of Patricia Carlton and came to the conclusion that there is sufficient evidence to charge Andrew Albury,” a Queensland Police Service spokesman said on Tuesday.

“(QPS) hopes that this result provides some closure to Patricia’s family.”

Despite the arrest warrant being issued, QPS won’t apply for Albury’s extradition from the NT to Queensland.

The impact of a trial on the remaining witnesses was one of the reasons this decision was made, the spokesman said.

But if Albury is considered for release, QPS will seek extradition so that he can stand trial for Ms Carlton’s murder, he said.

The cold case investigation into Ms Carlton’s death started in March 2020.

Albury is currently serving a life sentence for the brutal murder of Gloria Pindan, 29, on November 25, 1983.

Her bloodied and partially clothed body was found in a flower bed in Darwin near a blood-stained wall with multiple injuries.
