Four people are in police custody after officers in riot gear carried out early morning drug raids in Sydney’s Kings Cross and neighbouring suburbs.
Police say they are investigating the supply of heroin and the drug ice in the area.
Riot police with a police dog stormed an address on Darlinghurst Road, just after 6am on Tuesday, with a badly bruised shirtless man being led away in handcuffs.
Properties in Redfern and Surry Hills were also searched.
Two men, 40 and 43, and a 34-year-old woman were arrested in Kings Cross, while a 41-year-old woman was arrested on Crown Street, Surry Hills, police said.
A Darlinghurst Road cafe worker described the operation near the El-Alamein memorial Fountain as a “stealth raid” involving about 10 officers wearing specialist riot uniforms.
“It was all calm, there was no stress,” one cafe worker who wanted to remain anonymous told AAP.
There were no sirens and no police cars, they moved quietly down the street towards Oxford Street and then returned with a man a short time later, she said.
Superintendent Michael Fitzgerald, Commander, Kings Cross Local Area Command, will address media later on Tuesday.
