A man suspected of having links to the alleged murder of a Queensland man whose body was found at a Wide Bay property may be disguising himself, police say.

Detectives want to speak to Daniel Baumgart, 38, about the alleged murder of a 43-year-old man whose body was found near Gympie on Monday.

The victim was allegedly involved in a fight with three other men on Sunday.

Detectives later charged a 36-year-old man with murder, assault occasioning bodily harm and wilful damage.

The accused man was earlier taken to Hervey Bay hospital after suffering a non-life-threatening stab wound to his abdomen.

A 45-year-old man is also in custody after he and the dead man allegedly fled the fight in Maryborough after being seriously injured.

Their ute was found abandoned after it was allegedly crashed into the front gate of a property not far from where the man’s body was found.

Baumgart is about 180cm tall with a slim build, red hair and a red beard.

“He may have changed his features by shaving his beard and head and be staying with others in the Maryborough area,” a police spokesman said on Wednesday.

Police warn that anyone who helps Baumgart could be charged with serious criminal offences.

They are urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
