A 58-year-old Queensland man has been attacked while sitting on the front verandah of his home, but it was his assailant who ended up in hospital.

An armed attacker has ended up in hospital after being punched and falling down some stairs while allegedly trying to stab a man in Central Queensland.
A 58-year-old man was on the verandah of his Rockhampton home on Saturday evening when another man allegedly came into the front yard.
The 55-year-old asked for directions before allegedly attempting to stab the older man with a knife after he turned his back, police said on Monday.
The man managed to block the knife a number of times before he punched his alleged attacker, causing him to fall backwards down the stairs, police said.
Officers arrived a short time later and found the younger man at the bottom of the stairs with a head injury
He was taken to hospital for treatment.
The man has since been charged with acts intended to maim and is scheduled to appear in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Monday.
