LNP promise to cut Qld land tax, grow jobs

Queensland’s Liberal National Party plans to discount land tax if elected, saying it will bring $2 billion worth of investment and create 4600 jobs.

October 4, 2020

Queensland’s Liberal National Party has promised to discount land tax to help boost construction jobs if it wins the state election.

LNP Leader Deb Frecklington says lower taxes will stimulate the economy and drag the Sunshine State out of recession.

Under the scheme, land tax would be slashed by 75 per cent.

Ms Frecklington said the plan could bring $2 billion worth of investment to Queensland and create 4600 construction jobs over the next ten years.

Exemptions will also be offered on international investor taxes for eligible build-to-rent projects.

“I have a vision to make Queensland the low tax state again and a no-new-tax guarantee is one of the first commitments I made to Queenslanders,” Ms Frecklington said in a statement on Sunday.

The plan is also expected to deliver 4000 new homes in the first ten years.

Queensland goes to the polls on October 31.
