Two people have been charged over a central Queensland siege sparked by a knock at the door following a car accident involving a stolen car.

The stand-off started when police went to a Rockhampton home about 3.45pm on Wednesday with a return to prison warrant for a 27-year-old man.

Detective Senior Sergeant Luke Peachey says the man barricaded himself inside a home and threatened officers.

“After a number of hours that person surrendered into police custody,” he told reporters on Thursday.

The man was wanted over the alleged theft of a Toyota Corolla on Sunday.

Police allege the car was involved in a crash while it was being driven dangerously through the central Queensland city.

When officers tried to serve the warrant, the man allegedly refused to come out of the house.

Police say a 19-year-old woman at the property encouraged the man and also threatened police.

Officers negotiated with the man until he surrendered at 8.15pm.

He was charged with a string of offences including dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving without a licence and serious assault of police.

He was remanded in custody after appearing in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Thursday, where his case was adjourned until October 1.

The woman was charged with assaulting police and is due to appear in the same court on September 30.

Earlier, detectives charged a 32-year-old man after he allegedly fired a shot from a gun at a man in Rockhampton’s central business district on Monday.

Police say the man who fired the weapon was involved with the man later arrested over the siegeĀ and a fight with a third man preceded the firearms incident.

He was charged on Wednesday with a slew of offences, including dangerous conduct with a weapon and evading police.

He was also remanded in custody after appearing in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Thursday, where his case was adjourned until October 1.
