Five teens injured in Queensland car crash

Five teenage boys have been injured after a high-speed car crash on Tamborine Mountain in the Gold Coast hinterland.

January 30, 2019

Two teenage boys have critical injuries and another is in an induced coma after their car flipped and crashed at high-speed in the Gold Coast hinterland.

The 16-year-old driver lost control of the car on Beacon Road at Tamborine Mountain on Wednesday about 5.40am.

The vehicle flipped and rolled before coming to a rest upside down against a fence at the local swimming pool.

Wreckage from the late model car and bits of a fence surrounding the bowling club littered the semi-rural street in Tamborine North.

Two 14-year-old boys were trapped in the back seat of the almost unrecognisable car.

They were eventually rescued and flown to the Queensland Children’s Hospital with critical head, chest and limb injuries.

The driver was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital where he remains in an induced coma with significant head injuries.

A 14-year-old passenger in the front seat and another boy sitting in the back suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital as a precaution.

Police say speed was a factor and they continue to investigate the crash.
