Two men in a Volkswagen allegedly shot up a house, rammed a car and threatened the driver at gunpoint before leading Queensland police on a cross-border chase.

The drama eventually ended when the driver lost control trying to avoid road spikes laid by NSW police.

It’s alleged the men, who are aged 21 and 27, evaded Gold Coast police before heading for the border on Tuesday about 2pm.

A knife and pills were found on the older of the two, who was doused with pepper spray after he allegedly became aggressive.

He was charged with resisting arrest, carrying a weapon and possessing a prohibited drug and bailed to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court on December 17.

The 21-year-old was charged with offences related to dangerous driving and the pursuit before being refused bail and ordered to appear in Tweed Heads Local Court on November 14.

Queensland police say the Volkswagen was involved in a ramming incident where a man and woman had a firearm pointed at them on Monday at Mermaid Beach followed by a drive-by shooting at a home in Currumbin Waters.

Queensland police air unit tracked the men south on the Pacific Highway for two hours the following day after they evaded officers at Tallai on the Gold Coast about noon.

They crossed the border near Tweed Heads where local highway patrol officers joined Queensland vehicles in the pursuit.
