The world’s weirdest stadium names

A list of the weirdest stadium and sporting ground names from across the globe.

May 24, 2018

FOLLOWING THE RENAMING OF MELBOURNE’S ETIHAD STADIUM TO MARVEL STADIUM, HERE ARE SOME OF THE WEIRD AND WONDERFUL SPORTING VENUE NAMES FROM AROUND THE WORLD.

Lottoland – formerly Brookvale Oval, the polarising home of NRL club Manly was renamed in 2017 after a gambling company.

The Dripping Pan – there are conflicting stories about how the home of semi-professional English soccer team Lewes FC got its name in 1885. It may have been because it was once a medieval salt pan, or because it was also a fish farm for monks.

1300SMILES Stadium – the Townsville stadium is the home of the North Queensland Cowboys in the NRL. Renamed in 2013 for a local dental chain.

Mend-A-Hose Jungle – it is where English Super League team Castleford play. Mend-A-Hose is a hydraulics company in northern England.

And the NBA has its fair share of silly sounding arenas – Smoothie King Centre, Talking Stick Resort Arena and the former Sleep Train Arena.
