Woman’s hair pulled from head in NT attack

A woman has suffered significant hair loss after a teenage girl allegedly pulled it from her head during an attack in the Alice Springs city centre.

A teenage girl has allegedly pulled a woman’s hair from her head during an attack in the Alice Springs city centre.

The 16-year-old assaulted the 41-year-old at a taxi rank about 6am on Sunday after the pair argued, Northern Territory police allege.

“The youth is alleged to have grabbed the woman by the hair before she began physically assaulting her, causing the woman to fall to the ground,” a spokesman said on Monday.

Two off-duty officers driving home after night shift came to the victim’s aid and arrested the youth.

The woman suffered facial injuries and significant hair loss and was taken to Alice Springs Hospital.

The teen was charged with one count of recklessly endangering serious harm. She was also charged with obtain benefit by deception over the alleged possession and use of a stolen bank card.

She was remanded into custody and scheduled to appear in the Local Court in Alice Springs.
