Charges laid after alleged NT ICAC leak

A worker at the Northern Territory’s anti-corruption watchdog has been charged after allegedly leaking confidential information.

A staff member at the Northern Territory’s anti-corruption watchdog allegedly leaked confidential information.

The 23-year-old woman has been charged with unauthorised disclosure of information obtained in the course of performing function, NT police said on Friday.

She is also accused of disclosure of confidential Information and has been issued with a notice to appear in court.

The NT’s Office of the Independent Commissioner Against Corruption referred the case to police, who then seized the woman’s phone on June 3.

Commissioner Michael Riches said he would not comment on the matter whilst court proceedings and disciplinary processes were ongoing.

Instead he reminded media of the statement he made when was appointed to the role in July last year, saying his position had not changed.

“Those who work in my office must act with the utmost integrity. Anyone who cannot or will not meet that expectation has no place in my team,” he said at the time.

“Where allegations of impropriety are made about my staff or me, they will be taken seriously.”

The woman is scheduled to appear in court on July 19. The court location was not disclosed.
