Police have called for witnesses after a fatal bus crash in remote central Australia killed one man and injured four other holidaymakers.

The Emu Run Experience bus carrying 19 interstate tourists rolled several times on Monday afternoon near Hermannsburg, 125km west of Alice Springs.

A 69-year old-male passenger died at the scene.

Four other passengers, including three women aged 62, 67 and 70 and a man aged 60, were taken to the Alice Springs Hospital with multiple serious injuries.

Emergency services worked throughout Monday night to rescue and treat passengers from the 4WD bus.

“Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the cause of the crash are ongoing,” Northern Territory police constable Jeremy Cross said.

“As part of a comprehensive investigation, we’d like to speak with anyone who witnessed the tour bus in the area of Hermannsburg on the afternoons of Sunday or Monday before the fatal crash.”

The crash happened on Larapinta Drive, 5km east of Hermannsburg, after the tourists had visited a national park on a day tour.

It’s not clear if all the passengers were wearing seatbelts.

Police have previously said it appeared the bus driver had lost control and there was no information to suggest another vehicle was involved.
