Yowie chocolates expands further into US

The conservation-themed treats made by chocolate maker Yowie Group will soon be on more store shelves across the US, including 1,250 Target outlets.

December 7, 2017

Australian chocolate maker Yowie is stepping up its expansion in the US, quadrupling the number of Target stores stocking its character-themed treats and moving into more than 8,000 convenience stores.

The conservation-themed confectionary will also be available in more supermarkets on both the east and west coasts of the US.

The expansion includes speciality stores, including Bed Bath and Beyond with 1,530 stores.

The move, which follows a restructure of its US operations this year and a trial in 300 Target stores, will increase sales in the first half of the 2018 calendar year, Yowie said in a statement on Thursday.

Yowie chief operating officer Mark Schuessler said there was scope for further expansion in the US.

“We see distribution growth potential extending beyond fiscal 2018 … driven by our current product innovation and investments in brand awareness through our marketing programs,” Mr. Schuessler said.

The ASX-listed firm expanded into Canada in October via distributor Mondoux Confectionery.

The expansion follows a successful launch in New Zealand in August and a return to Australian shelves in February after its WA-based maker struck a key distribution deal.

Yowie shares were up 1.0 cent, or 5.9 per cent, to 18 cents at 1045 AEDT.
