Hunt for Qld bikie’s killers continues

Detectives continue to investigate the killing of infamous ‘ballroom blitz’ brawl bikie Shane Bowden as three former gang members are arrested on drug charges.

October 15, 2020

Three members of Queensland’s Mongols bikies have been arrested on drugs charges four days after a notorious former member was executed at his Gold Coast home.

A 31-year-old man was charged with trafficking dangerous after police seized steroids, cannabis, cash and mobile phones at a Labrador home on Thursday.

A 30-year-old man was charged possessing dangerous drugs, contravening an order to provide access to information stored electronically and possession of drug utensils.

A third man was arrested but released without charge.

The arrests come as detectives continue to investigate the fatal shooting of infamous “ballroom blitz” brawl bikie Shane Bowden.

Bowden, 48, was gunned down at his Pimpama home early on Monday after surviving a failed attempt to kill him in Melbourne three months ago.

Detective Superintendent Brendan Smith said on Monday the former Mongol turned Finks outlaw motorcycle gang member was shot dead as he returned from the gym about 12.10am.

“He’s driven into his garage and that’s when he was attacked,” Det Supt Smith told reporters.

“He hasn’t even got out of his vehicle and he’s been shot multiple times.

Up to a dozen shots were fired through Bowden’s car window.

“It clearly seems he’s been ambushed. He’s been executed,” Det Supt Smith said.

Police believe the killing is unlikely to be gang on gang and was suspected to be a result of Bowden’s personal history and recent behaviour.

Bowden was once part of the Finks “terror team” and jailed over the Gold Coast’s “ballroom blitz” brawl in which three people were shot and two stabbed in 2006.

He was fined $750 earlier this month for causing a COVID-19 scare when he breached health restrictions by travelling from Victoria to Queensland after lying on his border declaration.

The drug arrests are unrelated to the investigation into Bowden’s homicide, police said.
