A former Queensland financial adviser accused of unlawfully accessing almost a million dollars of clients’ superannuation funds has faced court.
Brett Andrew Gordon, 52, appeared on Friday in Maroochydore Magistrates Court charged with 10 counts of fraud to the value of $975,600.
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission alleges Gordon withdrew $502,000 from six self-managed superannuation funds without authorisation between 2015 and 2017.
Gordon is also accused of dishonestly using clients’ money to pay $473,600 of personal debts and business expenses between 2016 and 2018.
Clients were told the money would be invested in property development projects, ASIC said.
Gordon was previously the director of Refocus Financial Group Pty Ltd and Diverse Capital Management Pty Ltd.
ASIC wound up Refocus and banned Gordon from operating a financial services business without holding an Australian Financial Services licence in July 2018.
Gordon’s case will return to the same court for a mention on September 25.
