Queensland police have been left dumbfounded after they were called to the same noisy Gold Coast party house twice in two days.

Officers handed out 25 fines to revellers at the Carrara Airbnb home for breaching COVID-19 social distancing regulations.

“We were incredibly disappointed the first time because we’ve given the message out tens of thousands of times that you cant have parties, that you cant congregate in large groups,” Commissioner Katarina Carroll told reporters on Monday.

“To go back a second time I think we were all in disbelief. Completely unacceptable.”

Police issued seven fines on Friday night to a group of people in their 20s following a noise complaint.

They were called back to the same house early on Sunday morning where they found the same people continuing to party.

Officers issued another 18 fines for breaching social distancing regulations.

In total, $33,350 worth of fines were handed to the party-goers.

Commissioner Carroll said she was also disappointed that hundreds of people crowded Burleigh Heads beach on Sunday night.

She said police would be patrolling the area and erecting barricades to enforce social distancing on Monday.

Under the easing of some restrictions from Saturday, people were free to travel up to 50 kilometres from their home to shop, visit a park or go to the drive-in.

However, they could only move about with members of their household and social distancing measures had to be maintained.

Queensland Police issued 146 fines for breaches across the weekend.

Earlier, the state government warned a mooted staggered reopening Queensland’s schools could depend on the effect that easing stay-at-home restrictions has.

“It’s important for us to understand how that movement of people could affect the spread of the virus,” Health Minister Steven Miles said.

Queensland recorded just one new positive COVID-19 test on Sunday taking the total number of cases to 1035.

There are 53 active cases while nine people are in hospital, including four in intensive care.

Of the active cases, 46 are in the southeast region.

There are four active cases in Cairns, two in Townsville and one in the Wide Bay region while several regions have zero active cases, including Mackay and Central Queensland.
