A Queensland man who allegedly knifed a woman and abducted her six-week-old baby girl is in police custody after being charged with domestic violence offences.

Police say the man, aged 34, repeatedly assaulted the woman, 33, after the pair, who were a couple, stared arguing at a home north of Brisbane on Friday.

The man is then alleged to have left the Narangba house with a child, causing police to issue an amber alert about 10am.

Police, at the time, said they were urgently seeking public help to locate the newborn with fears she could be at significant risk.

However, the baby girl was found to be uninjured and well after the man showed up at the Caboolture Hospital with the child about 11:30pm.

During the initial altercation, the man also allegedly threatened the woman with a knife, causing a large cut to her hand.

She was transported to hospital for treatment for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police charged the Mooloolaba man with domestic violence offences, including common assault, assault occasioning bodily harm, strangulation, threatening violence and wounding.

He was refused police bail and will appear in Redcliffe Magistrates Court on Monday.
