Two teenagers and a young man accused of murdering a Brisbane doctor at his home have fronted a Queensland court.

Joshua Hamilton, 19, Billy Smith, 20, and a 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were not required to appear in the Brisbane Magistrate’s Court on Saturday.

The trio are charged with the shooting murder of Luping Zeng, 56, at his MacGregor home on Monday night.

The skin cancer doctor was shot in the chest in the garage as he packed his car about 11.40pm.

Bail was not applied for and all three were remanded in custody.

Hamilton and Smith will reappear in the same court on April 23 and June 3, respectively.

The boy will appear in the Children’s Court on June 10.

They have also been charged with entering a dwelling with intent, attempted robbery with violence, possession of shortened firearms and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Police believe the trio didn’t know Dr Zeng and robbery was likely to be the motive behind his killing.

Dr Zeng’s wife and two adult children were at home when the shooting occurred.

He was taken in a critical condition to Princess Alexandra Hospital where he died.

Dr Zeng had three decades of medical experience, spoke three languages and was a highly regarded member of Brisbane’s Chinese community.

He moved to Australia in 2000 and worked at the Waterford 7-Day Medical Centre and Skin Cancer Clinic.

His patients reacted to the news of his death with disbelief, remembering his gentle and compassionate nature.
