A man accused of taking part in the gang-rape of a Queensland woman on her 21st birthday more than two decades ago will finally face justice.

Yusuf Mohamed Abdi, 44, appeared in a closed court session of the Brisbane Magistrate Court on Monday, where his alleged victim gave evidence by video-link.

He was committed to stand trial for allegedly raping the woman on November 26, 1995, in West End.

Two other men, who are also accused of attacking the woman, will face the same court on January 20.

A Brisbane man is charged with rape and a Sydney man is charged with rape, deprivation of liberty, attempted indecent assault with an object and another sexual assault charge.

Abdi, who was extradited from Adelaide in June 2019 to begin court proceedings for the historical rape case, was granted bail until his trial.

The woman has previously accused Queensland Police of destroying important DNA evidence from the night of the attack.

In April 2019 she told the ABC two detectives had privately told her the dress and underwear she was wearing on the night of the attack, along with the rape kit samples, had been destroyed.
