Clues to woman’s gun death elude Qld cops

Police investigating the suspicious shooting death of a woman south of Brisbane has been unable to establish when she was killed or find the weapon.

Detectives are no closer to solving the suspicious death of a woman who was shot in the head at a property south of Brisbane.

Police found the 40-year-old’s body at a property in Karawatha early on Saturday but they don’t know when she died and haven’t found a weapon.

Detective Inspector Craig Morrow says neighbours heard two gunshots hours before police received a triple-zero call at 3.16am.

“We’ve got neighbours who reported hearing what they believed was shots but we can’t work out the time of death is,” he told reporters on Monday.

“It is only day three of this investigation.”

The semi-rural property remains a crime scene as forensic officers comb the site for clues.

Det Insp Morrow said no weapon had been located and investigators don’t have any firm suspects.

“We’re speaking to a number of people from family members to associates, and anyone that was in that area at the time,” he said.

A 43-year-old man present when the woman was shot has been released without charge. However, police haven’t ruled out he may be involved in the woman’s death.

“He is the person who made the call to us, to triple-zero. He is (also) someone the police (have) dealt with before,” Det Insp Morrow said.

Police have asked anyone travelling along Wembley Road between 2.45am and 3.20am on February 9 to contact them.
