A prominent Queensland barrister has faced court accused of two counts of perjury.

Alastair Scott McDougall, 51, briefly appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday after he was charged by the Crime and Corruption Commission on December 7.

Police allege McDougall lied during a CCC hearing about communicating with high-profile Brisbane lawyer Adam Magill.

The offences are alleged to have occurred on October 29 and December 5.

McDougall is accused of discussing matters related to the corruption watchdog’s investigation of Magill and others.

Magill and five other men, including two from his law firm Lawler Magill, were charged in October following an 18-month investigation into his firm.

Magill was charged with aggravated fraud, money laundering and fraudulent falsification of records.

It’s alleged some of the group were involved in defrauding Legal Aid Queensland of $340,000.

They’re also accused of failing to deposit more than $765,000 into a trust account, as well as money laundering offences.

Magill was re-arrested last month in relation to an alleged phone call with McDougall, which was a breach of his bail conditions.

The call to the Toowong barrister was allegedly seen on McDougall’s phone by a CCC detective.

McDougall’s bail was extended ahead of his next appearance on February 25.
