A man accused of drunkenly confessing to fatally bludgeoning a Queensland teenager 29-years ago is to appear at an inquest into her death.

Annette Mason, 15, was bashed across the face, possibly with a piece of wood, after a night out with friends and her body was found at her family’s Toowoomba home .

Coroner Terry Ryan is investigating her death 27 years after a first inquest failed to find sufficient evidence to pin down her killer.

At least five witnesses including police have already told the coroner McQueen, who is also known as Allan Gill, made a series of admissions regarding Annette’s abuse and her death.

McQueen is expected on Thursday at the second inquest into Annette Mason’s November 1989 death but will not be compelled to give self-incriminating answers.

On Wednesday, an acquaintance of McQueen, who can’t be named, testified that about the same time as Ms Mason was murdered, McQueen turned up at a residence after midnight with blood on his jeans.

Another witness, whose identity is also suppressed, recalled McQueen tried to get Ms Mason, who was underage, into a nightclub the night she died.

Annette’s bloodied body was later discovered in her bed but the witness never suspected McQueen was linked to her murder.

“We all felt for the poor family. It was horrible. It’s the worst thing I can remember in Toowoomba in the time I was there,” the witness said.

Outside court, solicitor Leanne McDonald, who is working pro-bono for the family, said they wanted to “face-off“ with McQueen.

“We must not lose sight of what’s happened here. An innocent 15-year-old girl, who had her entire life ahead of her, was violated and murdered,” she said in a statement.

The inquest continues.
