A Sydney man who twice abducted and then tortured the same man because he sold him a bad batch of drugs will be sentenced in Brisbane’s District Court.

Fadi Chiha, 33, pleaded guilty to kidnapping, deprivation of liberty, extortion, fraud, torture and robbery, dating back to 2012.

Chiha told Judge Michael Burnett on Tuesday he knew what he did was wrong but he was reacting after his victim sold him a bad batch of methamphetamine.

“I purchased some drugs from the individual, your honour, and it was mixed with some cutting agents and I had a bad reaction to it … I was unconscious for 12 hours,” he said.

Crown prosecutor Elizabeth Kelso told the court the victim, Mr Van, was abducted off the street and bundled into the boot of his own car before he was held for 12 hours and robbed at gunpoint.

“It was exactly two weeks later when he received a message from someone unknown identifying that they knew where he was, that he was not to make them come and get him,” she said.

Despite his earlier abduction, Mr Van met the man, whose voice he recognised as Chiha’s, in a shopping centre before he again found himself being taken to a home where he was bound, robbed and held against his will.

The next day, Chiha bashed Mr Van while demanding more money before pulling out a knife and slashing his face six or seven times, Ms Kelso said.

When Mr Van finally escaped to the safety of a neighbour’s home, Chiha used his victim’s car and mobile phone to impersonate him before robbing Mr Van’s sister of about $20,000.

Chiha will be sentenced on Wednesday.
