A Queensland man accused of stabbing another man to death while dropping off children after a play date, sped off as the man lay dying, a court has heard.

Shane Colin Duffy, 37, of Beaudesert, went on trial on Monday accused of murdering James Beel-Endycott, 27, on the evening of June 10, 2016.

In her opening submission, crown prosecutor Judy Geary said Duffy and his de facto partner Jade Cencig had visited Mr Beel-Endycott’s girlfriend, Kamahla Deveney-Baker, at her home to drop off her children.

The two children had been visiting their daughter at their home for a play date a few streets away, the Brisbane Supreme Court was told.

Ms Geary said soon after the couple arrived, Duffy and Mr Beel-Endycott, who had earlier punched a hole in the wall and head-butted a window cutting his forehead, began fighting in the front yard.

Witnesses saw Duffy, who denies the murder, get Mr Beel-Endycott in a “bear hug” and throw him against a car, she said.

“At this time (Ms Deveney-Baker) noticed James Beel-Endycott went limp and he started calling out ‘help me, help me’,”she said.

Mr Beel-Endycott then stumbled away towards a neighbour’s yard where he lifted his shirt and revelled blood coming from his chest and said “I don’t feel so good”.

Ms Geary said as Mr Beel-Endycott lay bleeding from a stab wound that punctured his chest wall, his left lung and heart, Duffy was seen driving off in his green four-wheel drive.

Weeks later, during a search of a nearby paddock, an SES officer found a knife with blood on the tip, she said.

Forensic testing revealed a DNA match to the victim.

The trial continues.
