A housemate accused of murdering a 28-year-old Chinese woman who vanished from her Sydney home more than four days ago will remain behind bars.

Shuo Dong, 19, is accused of murdering Qi Yu but detectives are yet to find her body.

Dong did not appear in Burwood Local Court on Wednesday and bail was formally refused by magistrate Mark Richardson.

Dong’s lawyer Matt Kwan told the court his client had not consented to the prosecution’s application for forensic procedures, which could include the collection of DNA evidence.

Ms Yu was last seen by friends at her Campsie share house in the city’s southwest on Friday evening and had made contact with her family in China about 7.15pm that day.

She was reported missing on Saturday and police found her white Toyota Corolla in Burwood, four kilometres away.

NSW Police arrested Dong upon his release from hospital on Tuesday and charged him with murder.

Ms Yu’s mother has travelled to Sydney and visited the Campsie house, according to a neighbour.

“She cried and cried,” Vincent Chen told The Daily Telegraph.

He described the missing woman as “very honest and quiet”.

Dong’s case is next scheduled for mention in Burwood Local Court on July 9.
