Lucky escape as Brisbane house ‘shot up’

Police have released CCTV footage of a house in Brisbane being shot up by a man earlier this month.

September 2, 2019

Two people have had a lucky escape after a masked gunman blasted two shotgun rounds into a Brisbane bedroom.

Security cameras captured the attacker approaching the Mount Gravatt East home about 9.30pm on Sunday, September 15.

Moments later he fires both barrels of the sawn-off gun, causing an explosion of glass.

Queensland Police say the woman, 29, and man, 36, were not injured but remain “extremely frightened and traumatised”.

“When those rounds travelled into that bedroom, they were still going at a velocity,” Detective Inspector Mark Thompson told reporters on Wednesday.

“I believe they could have created significant injury if not death.

“A shotgun at close range is a powerful weapon.”

Det Insp Thompson said investigators are struggling to understand why the woman’s home was targeted.

He said it’s unlikely the shooting is related to criminal gangs or drugs but the shooter appeared to know the layout of the home and had targeted the bedroom.

The attacker covered his face and wore a white hoodie with gloves.

In addition to the shotgun, he carried a handgun fitted with a silencer and fled the scene by car.

Det Insp Thompson said it’s likely someone apart from the man caught on camera was involved in the attack.

He said one man was in custody but declined to say if he was the shooter.

He called on the public with information about the incident to contact police.
