Hard work ahead for Queensland’s LNP

Queensland’s LNP will have to work hard to win the next election despite a massive drop in support for Palaszczuk government, the party’s deputy leader says.

The Queensland Liberal National Party has conceded leader Deb Frecklington will have to work hard to win the next election despite a massive drop in support for the Labor Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk.

A recent News Corp commissioned YouGov poll found a 13 per cent drop in support for Ms Palaszczuk had only translated to a two per cent boost to Ms Frecklington.

LNP deputy leader Tim Mander says with just 14 months to the next election, the party will need to work to prove itself as a viable alternative to Labor.

“The more people that get to know Deb Frecklington the more people will like her,” he told reporters on Saturday.

“We’re going to work hard … and we take nothing for granted.”

On a two-party-preferred basis, the poll found the LNP had edged in front to 51 per cent versus Labor’s 49 per cent following a three per cent swing since February.

Voter support for Ms Frecklington also grew but it was modest compared to the double-digit fall in support for Ms Palaszczuk as preferred premier.

Ms Frecklingon continues to trail Ms Palaszczuk, 29 per cent to 34 per cent respectively.

Asked how satisfied they were with the opposition leader, the 1000 respondents were undecided with 30 per cent satisfied and 30 per cent unsatisfied. Forty per cent said they were unsure.
