Qld murder accused’s home tested for blood

Forensics officers investigating the disappearance of a Gold Coast woman found urine in her home’s master bedroom carpet, her husband’s murder trial has heard.

Investigators tested for blood but found urine in the carpet at the home of a Gold Coast man on trial for his estranged wife’s murder, a court has heard.

Novy Chardon, 34, went missing on February 6, 2013, amid a bitter divorce dispute with her 71-year-old husband, John William Chardon.

The mother-of-two’s body has never been found.

More than six years after she disappeared, Chardon is fighting a murder charge in the Brisbane Supreme Court.

The court has heard Queensland police forensic officers tested stains in the master bedroom carpet for blood, cleaning chemicals and urine.

Queensland Health chemist Tony Peter told the court he examined samples of the stained carpet and found urine in two areas of the master bedroom carpet.

“The urine found in the stain would have had to have been applied as a result of a liquid being poured onto that carpet surface,” he said.

It was unlikely the urine could have been walked onto the carpet, he said.

It was not known how old the urine was or if it came from a woman, man or animal.

Ms Chardon last spoke to some of her friends on the night she disappeared.

Prosecutor Mark Green has previously told the jury friends had tried to contact Ms Chardon the next day but didn’t get a response.

One of them, Frederika Wong, then went to the Chardon family home in Upper Coomera.

She noticed the carpet in Ms Chardon’s bedroom was wet underfoot and a runner was missing.

Chardon told her he had cleaned it that morning with a hired machine, Mr Green said.

The trial continues on Friday
