Ten people have been charged after two mass brawls, reportedly between two large feuding families, left a NSW neighbourhood littered with broken bottles.

More arrests have been made after a series of massive street brawls and the seizure of a samurai sword in a northern NSW town.

Police were called to the brawls in Inverell – reportedly between two feuding families – on February 13 and again on Sunday night to discover up to 30 people fighting.

Officers were forced to call in backup on both nights after beer bottles were thrown, NSW Police said in a statement on Wednesday.

One neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, feared for her life as she watched people pick up bladed weapons, poles and bricks during Sunday’s clash that left Waratah Avenue littered with broken bottles.

“You can’t look at these people the wrong way,” she told AAP.

“They’ll burn your house down.”

Investigators initially charged six people – three men aged 29, 56 and 65 and three women aged 27, 31 and 49 – with affray and offensive behaviour on Monday.

Four more people – two men aged 18 and 22 and two women aged 26 and 28 – were charged on Tuesday.

Officers have also seized a samurai-type sword from a home on Waratah Avenue.

Detectives say all 10 people charged known each other. They’re working to establish the identities of the others involved in the clashes.

Family and Community Services on Wednesday said the department was working with police and residents to ensure tenants were safe.

“FACS takes anti-social behaviour and illegal behaviour seriously and will seek to terminate the tenancy of anyone found guilty of serious illegal behaviour, including acts of violence against other tenants or neighbours,” a spokesman told AAP.

“FACS urges concerned tenants to contact their local FACS Housing office.”

The department urged tenants concerned about safety to contact police.

The 10 people charged were granted conditional bail to appear in Inverell Local Court in April.
